closed and guarded residential complexes ( called gated communities) have become in recent years
an essential part of the ever-growing housing markets in Eastern Europe
. Especially in the political and economic centers of the countries of Eastern Europe
they have become almost anywhere in the city,. They arise both in inner-city areas in the form of multi-storey apartment complexes and in the suburban hinterland as a so-called one-or multi-family rental housing estates. In contrast to its North and South American counterparts who have already been thoroughly investigated and researched, but there are in eastern Europe so far only very few studies that deal with the causes and effects of this new form of housing. A look behind the high walls and fences, even almost entirely missing.
the example of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, which has experienced over the last five years, an increase of over 50 of these
