good 18 years after the fall of the communist regime, the Romanian capital Bucharest is characterized by large billboards and neon signs on the building facades, and an increasingly dense traffic. These trends may well be seen as the visible result of a profound political, economic and social post-socialist transformation of the country and its capital. Urban development and architectural design Bucharest is characterized largely by the heritage of socialist urban development - which determine incurred in the 1950 housing estates and in particular the radical transformation of the city under Nicolae Ceausescu in the 1980s, today the physiognomy of the city.
The lecture is devoted to focus on this socialist city structure and development of the socialist city of Bucharest after the Second World War. Special attention is paid the radical transformation of the downtown areas to.
